Selection criteria
Only books created specifically for the theme will be considered for the exhibition. Additionally, books must be well crafted and experimental/innovative in content and/or structure. We will stick closely to this criteria when making our selection.
Entries are welcomed from professional book artists, amateurs and students so long as they meet the criteria. All of our exhibitions aim to push the boundaries of 'book-works' without compromising on quality and craft.
Please make your book under A3 in size (unless by prior negotiation).
There are also weight restrictions – please see bottom of page.
There is also a collaborative element to this brief – see below
About us
Please remember that we organise these exhibitions because we love books. All our time is volunteered. We have no funds! Please support us by buying one of our previous catalogues - available from Blurb.com. The Blurb quick link widget is accessible from the section of our website named All Catalogues/Purchases. You can just click on this and it will take you to the right place!

and http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/796975
We will aim to have the (e)motive catalogue ready for sale at the exhibition Private View.
We also hope to produce a sketchbook-like catalogue with all the sketchbook spreads.

WLYB Book Collection
If you would like to donate your book to our growing special collection of artists' books (and it is accepted)
then you do not need to worry about size, weight or return postage. Acceptance of books for this collection
is at our discretion and is not a guarantee that your work will be selected for the exhibition.
Our collection is expanding and we hope to exhibit aspects of it in the future.
Thank you to all the artists that have already donated their books to our collection.
We love your books!
Important small print
Photographs of your books may appear in publicity, articles, the catalogue and our research projects.
Your submission of work is seen as agreement to this. Whilst we will take as much care as possible
your work will be returned via Royal Mail and it will also be on public display for people to handle so
it is submitted at your own risk/insurance.
Here is some preliminary info so you can get started on your book.
Choose the letter ‘e’ or
the word ‘motive’ or
the word ‘emotive’
It's your choice… interpret it how you like...
Additional collaborative element
This year for the additional collaborative element we are also asking you to submit a landscape format photograph, or scan, of a double page spread from your sketchbook. Preferably a spread that relates to the development of your (e)motive idea. We may well make these into a separate catalogue - who knows – so please integrate your name (small please) into your page! Please make sure your spread also works in black and white – but submit it in colour.
We have had one entry, created by Barry Wenden, already submitted. It is included here as a point of reference. It is also included as Barry is (in)famous for submitting his entries to us on the day we are hanging the exhibition – so he never gets included in any of the catalogues. Barry "we love your books" when they are submitted on time!

Photo of Barry's book in the environment followed by a landscape format photo of Barry's sketchbook spread (relating to another project so it's not quite what we are asking for – but you get the idea!)
Here are some starting points for inspiration...
